Here we have the mid-range shaver in the SensoTouch 3D series of wet or dry shavers from Philips. Building on familiar technologies, the Philips RQ1260 SensoTouch 3D is a rotary shaver using the GyroFlex 3D technology of head movement and high-tech three track blades, as we will see shortly.

Beautiful, High-Class Finish

Product aesthetics are always a matter of personal preference, but for me, the Philips RQ1260 SensoTouch 3D is the most attractive shaver of the entire range. The slim handle has been ergonomically designed to ensure close control and extra precision of use. The easy grip handle also has an anti-slip coating and sits perfectly in the hand while shaving. The most stunning part of the Philips SensoTouch RQ1260 however, is the silver and chrome finish which gives an overall look of high-class technology. As a slight oversight, the charge stand however is finished in black and therefore does not match the shaver, but is still well-designed. The pop-up trimmer is still present and fits into the handle discreetly.

The Philips RQ1260 has Wet and Dry Options

Two technologies are central to the Philips RQ1260 SensoTouch 3Ds ability to be used as either a wet or dry shaver; the rotary blades are finished with the SkinGlide surface which reduces friction between the shave head and the skin allowing the shaver to move effortlessly over the face as it works. Also, the Philips RQ1260 SensoTouch 3D has an Aquatec seal which enables you to wet your face a little and use a shave gel or foam to suit your preference. To clean the shave head afterwards, these three rotary blades separate and open to allow you to wash out leftover gel and bits of hair.

Of course when you shave, you will have hairs of various length and growing direction on your face. This problem is dealt with by including in the design of the Philips RQ1260 SensoTouch 3D two of Philips most successful technological developments; the Super Lift and Cut action and UltraTrack-three specialised tracks in each rotary blade. Flat lying hairs, which are notoriously tricky to catch, are lifted at the roots by slight stretching of the skin, and then cut by the rotary blades. These blades consist of three tracks each; this combination of tracks uses slots to cut normal hair, channels for longer or flat lying hair and normal holes for the short stubble. The inclusion of these technologies in so many Philips models only goes to show that they are tried and tested and shown to be reliable in the field.

It is nice to see the charging stand included with the Philips RQ1260 SensoTouch 3D is not a complete afterthought; the stand is well made and durable and the shaver slots in nicely. As well as a quick charge feature, the stand also has an auto off function which means the battery will never be damaged by overcharging. A full charge will take 60 minutes for another 60 minutes of actual shaving time, and the battery will hold its charge for up to 20 days.

Overall Opinion of the Philips RQ1260 SensoTouch 3D

There have been no major innovations between this model and previous models in the series; however the actual quality of the shave does seem to have been tweaked slightly in terms of overall power and efficiency. Well-developed technologies come together give a comfortable shave which does not irritate the skin and follows the shape of your face effortlessly. The Philips RQ1260 SensoTouch 3D is also about the most attractive shaver I’ve ever seen.
