Full Review of the Panasonic ES-RL21
The Panasonic ES-RL21 is not particularly well known electric shaver from Panasonic being the only shaver in the RL range, and has somewhat slipped under the radar. Bearing many of the standard features of similarly priced shavers from Panasonic, let’s take a look at what the Panasonic ES-RL21 has to offer the hairy faced consumer:
The Panasonic ES-RL21 is actually a pretty good looking shaver, with a kind of hourglass shaped body of silver and black, and a large squarish shave head in silver also. The large, black on-off switch sits in the middle of the handle staring back at you with a little red pupil. As is quite standard with Panasonic shavers, the Panasonic ES-RL21 has a couple of LEDs to indicate how much battery power you have left.
Where has the Technology gone?
Whereas Panasonic has moved onto its quad blade system, the Panasonic ES-RL21 has just three blades and does not seem to be using Panasonic’s new Nano sharpened blade technology. In fact, not much of Panasonic’s new-fangled technologies seem to be in evidence with the Panasonic ES-RL21; the much debated 30 degree blade angle has not been implemented, and there are no boasts about the super RPM linear motor movement either. As far as technology is concerned, Panasonic seem to have cast the Panasonic ES-RL21 out as the runt of the litter.
How does the Panasonic ES-RL21 do the Job?
When it comes to the most important business of the actual shave, the Panasonic ES-RL21 actually does a decent job. Even though many of Panasonic’s patented technologies have been left out of this model, electric shaver technology has moved so fast lately that even a standard Shaver will do a pretty comprehensive job. Being a wet or dry shaver, the Panasonic ES-RL21 can be used quickly in the morning using its dry mode, or if you have the extra time, you can utilise its wet shave feature and use a shave gel etc.
As with all electric shavers, the Panasonic ES-RL21 has a pop-up trimmer on the back so that you can deal with your unruly sideburns and trim your moustache/goatee etc. The trimmer is one function of the modern electric shaver which does not seem to have moved on for the last 10 years; I can’t believe this function is as comprehensive or as effective as it is ever going to get, but perhaps manufacturers of electric shavers simply do not see it as a priority or a selling point.
Panasonic ES-RL21- The Bottom Line
Despite Panasonic seemingly having made the Panasonic ES-RL21 a little bit of an orphan, being the only shaver in its range, this electric shaver is a decent, reliable, uncomplicated shaver which does what you want it to do. Modestly priced, the shaver does not set the world on fire, but if you are looking for a standard shaver with no fuss, this could be the one for you.

This is a great piece of work by Panasonic and is still one of my favourite shavers. It still shaves better than a lot of newer shavers and despite it’s bulk it isn’t bad at all.
REALLY good shaver, a really good comfort afterwards, no problem cleaning, the top comes off smoothly in 3 pieces and its REALLY well made… have had no problem whatsoever with it
This has to be one of the best things I’ve bought in a very long time! I was growing more and more dissatisfied with shaving with Gillette Mach 3 and then Gillette Fusion 5+1.
My shave wasn’t really close and I didn’t know what to think other than the quality of these things had come down or my beard had grown harder the last few years. Anyway I had had bad experiences many years ago with electric shavers and decided to have a go again. Didn’t want to spend much bought this cheap razor. Well I am happy! One of the best shaves ever and it is beautiful, cheap and very handy. I am hooked! I use a softening cream with plenty of water on my face just after showering and it works wonders. I apply the same cream after shave (a little amount goes a long way) and my face is soft and nicely done. I am happy and my wife is happy too.
